While 1970s England had standout male figures — think Joe Strummer and Johnny Rotten — to lead the musical revolution, Ohio transplant Chrissie Hynde offered a feminist counterpoint after forming the Pretenders in London in 1978. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame frontwoman and animal rights activist is back on the road, but this time around, she’s touring in support of her debut solo album, Stockholm. (Jeff Hahne)
