Re: “A look at Charlotte's Tea Party

This is a line of attack that I just really don't understand.

Foremost, there is no single "entity" that is the "tea party" that can be "owned" by anyone. There are dozens, even hundreds, of disctinct, fiercely independent groups.

When CAUTION organized a Tea Party hospitality suite in Wilmington last year at the NCGOP convention, it became apparent to us that none of the groups in NC were interested in uniting under any one centralized umbrella. What we were able to do though is come together for a common cause when our interests overlapped.

Now certainly, there are national conservative organizations like FreedomWorks, Americans for Prosperity, Tea Party Express, Tea Party Patriots, etc, that I'm sure have a significantly better fundraising apparatus than our local groups do...all of which self fund as this article said. They receive money from all willing donors, just like the Sierra Club,, the Brookings Institute, etc, do.

Assuming that the Koch brothers fund any of these larger groups, how is that wrong, but a liberal group accepting money from George Soros or Michael Moore is A-OK? There is a tremendous double standard you have in place, and I'll have none of it.

People will fund what they agree with. It is George Soro's right to give as much money to the left as he wants, just like it is the Koch brothers right to give as much to the right as they want. It's about choice.

It is humorous when liberals like to claim that they are tolerant, open minded, and lovers of diversity...but heaven forbid they disagree with something and then the opposition suddenly becomes dog excrement.

Re: “A look at Charlotte's Tea Party

Thank you for this article.
While Tea Party members and Occupy disagree on tactics, presentation, and solutions; we agree that this country has gotten away from the people and is on track to implode.

Agreeing that there *are* problems is hopefully a solid first step to addressing them constructively.
I'm frankly embarrased by the seeming majority of Americans who don't see the path we're on as unsustainable.

Thank you Mallard for the name correction. I've gotten used to over the years being referred to as "Christine Hines", a plural female name. :) The writer is very appologetic and will correct it soon.

I'm looking forward to engaging with Creative Loafing readers on issues. It's the younger generation that is going to suffer the long term consequences of the mistakes being made today. If we want a future, we have to start changing things now.
