Clay + Adults = Kinky Fun

Saturday, March 31

The ad for Muddy Fun Day on the Clayworks, Inc. Web site asks: "Have you ever wanted to make something out of clay?" Such an open-ended question, especially in light of what's already been done with clay in the mainstream. Ya'll remember when a pre-Ashton Demi Moore got down and dirty with Patrick Swayze in Ghost as The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" urged them to satisfy that hunger to ... ? Sorry, got a little carried away. With the proper instruction, anyone can play the little potter on a lazy Saturday. Morning (10 a.m.-12 p.m.) and afternoon (1-3 p.m.) sessions are available. $10 fee to cover materials. Studio and gallery located at 301 E. 9th St., Suite 150. To register, contact Adrienne Dellinger at 704-344-0795 or e-mail at adellinger@clayworksinc.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
