COMEDY: Cedric The Entertainer at Bojangles' Coliseum

Saturday, Aug. 29

It's showtime at Ovens Auditorium and Cedric The Entertainer is in the house. The actor/comedian, known for his big-time role on The Steve Harvey Show, as well as in the Barbershop movies and The Original Kings of Comedy, among other films, is prepared to take you higher. He's a pro at making folks laugh about things like having plastic surgery and dieting ... you know, all the things you can't afford to do right now because of the economy. Ahhh, thank goodness for entertainment. For tickets, call 1-800-745-3000 or visit www. ticketmaster.com. $39.50-$54.50. 8 p.m. Bojangles' Coliseum, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. 704-372-3600. www.bojanglescoliseum.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
