COMEDY: Craig Shoemaker at McGlohon Theatre

Wednesday, Oct. 7

Since comedian Craig Shoemaker aka "The Lovemaster" spends a majority of his time cracking jokes, it may come to some as a surprise that he can actually be quite serious too. Having starred on comedy shows -- like Comic Relief and Comedy Central Presents -- as well as a variety of films, Shoemaker is also founder of a charity called Laughter Heals, and he's even written a couple of books for children. His latest project is a documentary called Live to Laugh, which focuses on laughter as a means of transforming lives. That said, it sounds like it could be beneficial to your health (or not!) to check Shoemaker out when The Comedy Zone and Blumenthal Performing Arts Center present his headlining show at McGlohon Theater on Oct. 7. Show contains adult language. 7:30 p.m. $20 and up. McGlohon Theatre, 345 N. College St. 704-372-1000.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
