COMEDY: Robin Williams at Ovens Auditorium

Saturday, Feb. 28

Actor, comedian Robin Williams is one funny man. In films, he brings life to characters on the big screen. His role in Mrs. Doubtfire (where he played a man, who led his family on a charade pretending to be the female nanny) always springs to mind, but of course that's just one of the many movies he's starred in. On his comedy tours, he presents the same zest of spirit that he does in film, but using his own jokes and ideas, he gets sold-out crowds bursting with laughter. Be sure to check him out when he visits Charlotte during his "Weapons of Self-Destruction" Comedy Tour, which will stop in at Ovens Auditorium. $55-$95. 8 p.m. Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. 704-522-6500.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
