Dance: A gypsy falls

Monday, March 10

Passion, jealousy, obsession and murder -- just the right recipe for an emotional tragedy. The distinguished St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre brings us such a potion in Georges Bizet's Carmen. Don Jose's downfall begins and ends with the firey Carmen, a gypsy no man can resist. Watch this loyal lover become an obsessed lunatic with murder on his mind. Don't miss the perfect opportunity to see a performance from this nationally acclaimed company. 8 p.m. $25-$65. Belk Theater, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
