Mixing sludgy stoner-rock and ’70s-style arena riffs with psychedelic-pop jams and melodies, L.A.-via-D.C. band Dead Meadow produces a uniquely heavy, yet airy, sound. The group’s early blues and punk influences ground it, keeping the songs well on the rails even when the band stretches out past the eight- or nine-minute mark, guitars fuzzing and buzzing around an always solid and never overly complex drum part. It’s a musical foundation that keeps it from getting too far lost in noise experimentation and navel gazing, like many of Dead Meadow’s neo-psych rock counterparts. Dead Meadow are joined on the bill by The Shine Brothers, who play a more pop-oriented, garage rock version of the psychedelic sound, and local band Little Bull Lee, who will be playing its final show.
