You could buy her flowers. If the weather is nice, nothing beats a stroll through the gardens at Daniel Stowe. For lunch you have two choices. First, the Garden Center is hosting a special Mother's Day catered luncheon. The cost is $20 for members, $25 for non-members, and $10 for those under 12. This price includes an admission ticket to the gardens. The catered luncheon from 11am until 1pm will include a choice of roasted chicken breast, wedge salad with mixed gourmet greens and herbed goat cheese, toasted pine nuts and raspberries; an herbed spinach tortilla vegetarian wrap with curried rice and artichoke salad, and seasonal fresh fruit.The garden also welcome picnics, so if you know Mom's favorite you can pack it up yourself, or buy a picnic to go at Dean & Deluca. Coolers cost $10.

After all those treasures of hers that you broke, take Mom to the Murano: Glass from the Olnick Spanu Collection at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, 220 North Tryon Street. (12noon until 5pm, 704-337-2000). Before you take in the exhibit the family can enjoy brunch across the street at Zink American Kitchen. The restaurant will have a special brunch which costs $19.95 for adults and $10.95 for children. It's from 10:30am until 2:30pm and will feature multiple stations including carving with prime rib and Virginia ham; omelets; salad; pastries; raw bar; and desserts.

A local favorite for Mother's Day is the Pewter Rose. This year their a la carte menu includes "Bananas Foster French Toast" with ciabatta filled with banana cream cheese and grilled with sweet royale, topped with rum, bananas, whipped cream, and maple syrup; "Horseradish Salmon Salad" on mixed greens; "Logan Turnpike Grits" with blue-stone ground grits, creamed shrimp, crab, and scallops; and a "Crab Quesadilla" with smoked gouda and Serrano on a cheese tortilla. A child's menu is available as well. Hours on Mother's Day are 1pm until 8pm.

In Huntersville, Dressler's is not only offering the full menu and extended hours, but some special items including roasted pear and scallop salad with blackberry gastrique; an upscale steak and eggs with beef tenderloin over crispy hash browns and fried onions; and a crispy seared wild striped bass with crab and rock shrimp risotto. Extended hours on Mother's Day are 1pm until 8pm.
