Don't Call It A Comeback

Tuesday, June 5

Sweet collides with sweet as Pretty in Pink icon Molly Ringwald leads the national tour of Sweet Charity into Belk Theater. Of course, there's a gritty side to this Cy Coleman-Dotty Fields musical. A couple of times, while tracing the tribulations of dancehall hostess Charity Hope Valentine, we're waylaid by that luscious vamp anthem, "Big Spender." Ringwald also has her grittier side, with Broadway stints as Sally Bowles to her credit. Good reasons to spend a little time with Molly, don't you think? Show runs through June 10. Tues-Sat, 8 p.m.; Sat.-Sun., 2 p.m.; Sunday, June 10, 7:30 p.m. $20-$63. 704-372-1000

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
