Exhibit: Butterfly World 

The New Gallery of Modern Art, which opened up in early September over at The Green, continues its metamorphosis. The gallery's latest exhibit, titled Butterfly World, is swarming with art inspired by the popular insect. Works by contemporary artists Damien Hirst and Hunt Slonem (see his pictured oil painting) are showcased.

The exhibit continues through Oct. 23. Hours: Monday, by appointment; Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m.-6 p.m. New Gallery of Modern Art, 435 S. Tryon St., Suite 110. 704-373-1464.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
