EXHIBIT: Mecklenburg, Germany

Tuesday, June 28

This new exhibit at The Charlotte Museum of History connects the city with one historical woman — Charlotte, Princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Queen (wife of King George III) of Great Britain — in celebration of the 250th anniversary of her coronation and the 1994 Partnership Agreement between the two Mecklenburgs. Photos from the Mecklenburg region of Germany will be showcased. This includes landscapes — seaside resorts, modern architecture, old farmhouses, castles (see the pictured Schwerin Castle) and cathedrals — and photos of folks who live there. Museum hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. The Charlotte Museum of History, 3500 Shamrock Drive. 704-568-1774.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
