FILM: Alfred Hitchcock's Rope

Monday, Nov. 30

The series "The Master of Suspense: Alfred Hitchcock Classics" continues with a screening of 1948's Rope. Dismissed in many circles as merely a gimmick -- Hitchcock shot this as if the entire movie was filmed in one long take (camera switches were made at discreet moments in the action) -- this actually stands up on its own (non-technical) terms, with two bored playboys (John Dall and Farley Granger) senselessly murdering a fellow student and then hiding the body in the same room in which they end up hosting a social gathering. Only their sharp professor (James Stewart) stands a chance of uncovering their dastardly deed. Free. 7 p.m. ImaginOn, 300 E. 7th St. 704-416-0252. www.plcmc.org.
