FILM: Cult Movie Monday, screening Waiting for Guffman

Monday, May 23

Tonight's Cult Movie Monday — presented by The Light Factory and Theatre 650 — will be screening the 1997 mockumentary, Waiting for Guffman. Set in the fictional town of Blaine, Missouri, the film chronicles a community theater production — Red, White and Blaine, in celebration of the town's 150th anniversary — led by kooky director Corky St. Clair (played by the film's own director, Christopher Guest). The challenge for participating residents (who aren't acting inclined) is upped when St. Clair reveals that a Broadway producer will be attending the musical, which may be considered for Broadway. Admission and popcorn is free. Doors open at 7 p.m.; film begins at 8 p.m. Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, 650 E. Stonewall St. 704-342-2251. www.actorstheatrecharlotte.org.
