FILM: Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness

Monday, May 25

Gore and humor made the Evil Dead film series a hit. If you've ever seen one of the movies, you know what I am talking about. Unreal amounts of blood don't just drip from injured victims -- it gushes out like water from a hose pipe (cranked up on high, might I add). It's all enough to make you laugh; unless, that is, you really were expecting a serious horror flick. Check out a film screening of Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness during Cult Movie Mondays. The screening is free and so is popcorn, but get there early to guarantee yourself a seat. Free. 8 p.m. Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, 650 E. Stonewall St. 704-342-2251. www.actorstheatrecharlotte.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
