FILM: Screening of Kung Fu Panda at Symphony Park

Friday, Aug. 28

SouthPark's "Movies Under The Stars" series at Symphony Park is winding down, with its last film screening to happen on Friday, Aug. 28. So, pack a blanket and/or lawn chair and make your way out for the one and only Kung Fu Panda. With a 42-foot screen projecting the film, you might even feel like you're at a real movie theater. The event is free and since it's held outside, you've also got the stars above (providing it isn't cloudy). Of course, you do take the risk of getting bitten by a bug. Free. Pre-event activities happen from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and movie begins at dusk. Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall, 4400 Sharon Rd. 704-364-4411.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
