FILM: Screening of Psycho Beach Party

Monday, Aug. 31

Another hum drum Monday? Well, that's what Theatre650's Cult Movie Mondays are here for. This Monday, head on over to Actor's Theatre of Charlotte for a free (that's how we like it!) film screening of Psycho Beach Party. The film is described as "a hilarious spoof of 1950's psychodrama, the 1960's beach party/Gidget movies, and the 1970's slasher films." Is it me, or does that just sound like it equals fun? Oh, and following the movie, you can see just how low you can go in a game of limbo. Dress in your beach best too, for a chance at prizes. Free. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and movie begins at 8 p.m. Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, 650 E. Stonewall St., 704-342-2251.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
