Get to Steppin'

Among the showstoppers at the 2006 CIAA Step Show at the Charlotte Convention Center earlier this month were some of the best college step teams in the East, including the amazing Deltas from North Carolina Central University and a high school step team from Greensboro. Playing on Jamie Foxx's portrayal of Ray Charles, the young men of UMOJA invigorated an event that at times was more about watching spectators step in the aisles than the teams onstage. If you weren't there, you certainly missed out on something special. Not to worry. Redemption arrives in the form of the Carolinas Step Challenge 2006, a regional high school qualifying event for the national urban step dance championship. Competition begins at 6:30pm on Friday, March 31 at First Ward Community Center. Tickets are $10. Proceeds will go to benefit New Life House of Metro Charlotte. For details visit www.StompUSA.com.
