Holiday Harmonies

Monday, October 1

Forget about Ringo, Paul, George and John. The Fab Four who headed 180° south of musical immortality have somehow been resurrected again as Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings makes its Charlotte debut at Halton Theater through Oct. 7. You have no idea how square squareness can get until you hear Sparky, Frankie, Smudge and Jinx take us back to the harmonious void of the pre-rock era. Backbeat? Never heard of it! This time around, The Four Plaids perform a special Yuletide-flavored concert, threatening to put the "Day-O" into excelsis as the quartet shanghais Christmas to the Caribbean. CPCC Theatre's musical comedy croons. Fri-Sat, 8 p.m.; Sun, 2:30 p.m. $13-$17. Halton Theatre, CPCC, 1206 Elizabeth Ave. 704-330-6534. www.halton.cpcc.edu. (Perry Tannenbaum)

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
