HOLIDAY: Holiday Lights at the Garden

Thursday, Dec. 30

Nothing says the holidays like lights. The more the merrier — well, at least until the power bill arrives. Good thing Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens goes all out with its Holiday Lights at the Garden so that we don't have to. During the seasonal event, the garden is decorated with more than 600,000 gleaming lights. Visitors can also enjoy carriage rides, holiday carols, baked treats, hot cocoa/cider and more. Continues through Dec. 31. $12 for adults; $11 for seniors; $6 for children 4-12 years old. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont. 704-825-4490.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
