Horoscope for Jan. 14-20, 2009

You are beginning a long period of total transformation. This means how you see and present yourself, your overall attitude and possibly your health. Issues of power are upfront and center. A situation is presently right in front of your face that shows you the next path to take, but not yet!

For All Signs: Mercury turned retrograde on Jan. 11 and will remain so for the rest of this month. What we do best during a Mercury retrograde period are things that begin with "re", such as "redo" and "reflect." Among the finest of this planet's retrograde specialties are "repeal" and "rescind." On Jan. 20, as everyone knows, we inaugurate a new president. I was troubled at first when I realized that we would be doing something this final and important while Mercury is retrograding, particularly with the given world conditions. But when I think more deeply about it, it makes a great deal of sense. Many of the activities of this term of office will be to "reverse" past decisions and "revisit" long standing issues in a more "reflective" way. The original bailout legislation was railroaded during the September 2008 Mercury retrograde. I was appalled at the pressure on Congress to make huge decisions from comparatively little accurate information and no real plan. Probably the first term of office will require a lot of "repair" to those weeks of congressional work in September and October.

Aries: You are likely to find yourself thinking a lot about old friends and may want to get in touch with one or two of them. This is a time for nostalgia and reminiscence. Others are thinking about you, too, but you are a sign with more initiative than many, so pick up the telephone.

Taurus: You may feel as though you are walking a tightrope. The arena is tied to love life or to financial circumstances and could be labeled "Freedom vs. Tradition." You are driven to change to new ways, but the pull of the past, the rules or tradition is very strong.

Gemini: Your ruling planet is changing directions in the territory which deals with education, publishing, travel, public speaking, the law and philosophy. Therefore, any of these activities are subject to shifts, changes or sudden deceleration due to lack of decision.

Cancer: Mercury is retrograding in the territory of taxes, debt and joint resources. You will likely experience a need to go back and review financial history. Some may be hesitating over whether or not to become sexually involved with a new lover. The answer for that one is to step back for now.

Leo: Most of this week is a time for catchup and finishing projects. For the month following the 19th, much of your attention will be on "others" in your life. Partnerships of any type are generally favored by this arrangement because you will be searching for the "fair" solution in any dilemma.

Virgo: You may find that your diet and exercise program are on hold or treading water. You have a desire to improve your everyday environment. Before you make big purchases, organize and sort closets, records and files. Then you can see your space and what truly needs to be changed.

Libra: You and a Taurus have much in common now. You are experiencing a radical change in your life. It is akin to walking out of a deeply dark cave into the bright sunlight. You have roughly 10 months to acclimate yourself to the new conditions. Then a change of work and role will redirect your energy entirely.

Scorpio: Whatever the circumstances of your life at present, it is all coming together for the purpose of your transformation. It may not be at all easy. Scorpio rarely takes the simple route. You can choose denial for a long time, but ultimately the Scorpio is a sign that must deal with psychological honesty.

Sagittarius: You may be thoroughly excited by an idea, a new vehicle, a returning person or a promise that comes your way. Investigate it multiple times before you invest yourself or your money heavily. Look out for your best interest because the person who carries the token is mainly trying to resolve his/her own problems.

Aquarius: This is probably not your best week. The issue of struggle over money, sex and joint resources contin­s to nag. A communication about this could bring old issues up again. In your heart you can intuitively feel yourself waking up with a new mission.

Pisces: This month you are being released from a velvet cage of your own making. It's a little like being pushed from the cozy bird's nest. Your next quest is toward the spiritual and it is not one that can be done in the velvet comfort zone.
