Think that high school kids don't reflect on what it means to be a man or woman in today's society? Think that they just don't get it? Think again.
Approximately 65 high school students from the International School at Garinger and Northwest School of the Arts worked with The Light Factory's education department team of Charles Thomas and Jen Crickenberger, as well as local slam poet Bluz and actress/performance artist Micaila Thomas, to put together this multimedia exhibition of what it is to be a young man or woman discovering yourself in a modern age. The girls generally explored themes of family, femininity and friendship, while the young men focused on issues of strength, pride and the importance of work.
Through this exhibit, these students not only explore gender differences but cultural differences. The youngsters show their budding talents through art, photography, and spoken word and movement performances.
