John Hairston Jr. 1962: The Age of Marvels CL Recommends

When: June 1-30 2012
Comic book junkie alert: It's the 50th anniversary of Marvel Comics, which gives you the perfect excuse to head over to Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find. Local artist and self-proclaimed Marvel nut, John Hairston Jr., presents his solo exhibit 1962: The Age of Marvels, at the comic shop this week. Hairston, whose mom was cool enough to get him hooked on comics as a child, has created 11 new works featuring big name characters like Spider-Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four and Ant-Man. Hairston didn’t forget about some of the more obscure fan faves like Rawhide Kid and Fing Fang Foom. "It's neat because a lot of these characters I have never painted before, either because I was afraid to or because it was outside of my comfort zone," says Hairston. We're glad he was brave enough to take on this special project. If you ask us, that makes Hairston a hero in his own right.
