Known as “the White Zulu,” Clegg has combined modern pop, rock and Zulu music of his native South Africa for nearly 30 years. It’s an infectious mix that Clegg has used to wrap around his lyrics of the hopes, dreams and dilemmas of Africa, along with the interconnectedness of the world’s cultures, bringing it all to the global stage. Savuka, his ground-breaking backup band in the ’80s, was one of the first racially integrated bands in South Africa. Clegg is also a dancer, activist and an anthropologist, along with being one of the most famous singer/songwriters and guitarists Africa has produced. (Samir Shukla)
