"How funky is your chicken? How funky is your chicken? How loose is your goose? Our goose is totally loose! So come on all you Hog fans, come on all you Hog fans and shake your caboose, shake your caboose!" Before Buffy became a kick-ass slayer on the WB, she was a totally flaky cheerleader in the 1992 movie. Wanna follow in her pom-poms? Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department teams up with Accessories Plus Etc. to throw the tenth annual County-wide Holiday Cheerleading Classic. All residents of Mecklenburg and surrounding counties ages 4-18 are invited to compete. There is a $5 registration fee for interested squads. 2:30 p.m. $4 ADM; $1 parking. Grady Cole Center, 310 N. Kings Drive. 704-353-1251/704-890-4487.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
