For a full education on black history, teachers breezing over MLK’s resistance and Barack Obama’s “post-racial America” in February aren’t enough. Schools don’t teach the names of black LGBT icons like Stonewall hero Marsha P. Johnson. The Charlotte chapter of the Trans and Queer People of Color Collective aims to shed light on these folks with classes that range from well-known names like Bayard Rustin to local martyr Black Brockington.
