L'Académie du Roi Soleil presents Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri
The musicians of L’Académie du Roi Soleil are delighted to present Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri, a set of cantatas featuring a period string ensemble and five voices. Composed in 1680, the work is widely known as the first Lutheran oratorio and sets the text of the medieval hymn Salve mundi salutare as a meditation on different parts of Christ’s crucified body. Instrumental concerti and full choruses are interpolated between vocal soli, duets, and trios.
