Laugh It Off

Monday, October 22

The Queen City has certainly had its share of comic relief lately. What with this whole light rail debacle and a whole laundry list of other issues. However, one thing we are good at is laughing at ourselves. LOL. But, seriously, it does help when there's a comedian onstage to help you through the process. The Comedy Zone and the Blumenthal Perfoming Arts Center have teamed up to sponsor a comedy series. Next up, is NBC's Last Comic Standing Tour. The search for the globe's funniest men and women takes a closer approach. See your favorites from this past season. 8 p.m. $10-$44. Belk Theater, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, 130 N. Tryon St.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
