Driving Miss Hodges
I just finished reading your article about riding the Charlotte area transit system ("Diary of a CATS rider" by Cheris Hodges, April 9). Let me start off by saying, HILARIOUS! That had to be one of the most entertaining newspaper reads I've had in a long time. I've also thought about writing an article similar to this but from the drivers POV. Yes, I am a CATS bus driver, but don't get me wrong, I agree 1,000 percent with everything you've said. The buses are uncomfortable, loud, late, funky and this goes for the people (not all but most) that ride too. Maybe this will put a bug in the ear of the powers that be in the transportation department and CATS officials. Keep up the funny informative articles and stay away from our shitty transportation system.

It's the Hard-knock life
After reading her "Diary of a CATS rider" (April 9), I wonder what Survivor-type adventure that Cheris Hodges will attempt next in the name of investigative journalism.
Perhaps she will visit a check-cashing store. Maybe she will go shopping at an outlet or she could buy nothing but store brands at Food Lion.
I can't wait to find out.

Man of the hour
Creative Loafing's belated Valentine to Nick Mackey ("The Nick Mackey you don't know" by Cheris Hodges, April 2) shed no light on this perennial candidate's quest for any office that will provide him government perks and gave us only a brief, strange glimpse into his ego. Nick Mackey considers himself a role model? Please! If you consider someone with a very questionable employment record, numerous fines for not representing his legal clients, a history of massive bankruptcy and his proven manipulation of the sheriff's race a "role model," then I guess Mackey's your man. No amount of reverse racism or sanitizing of his public record can make Nick Mackey a role model to a vast majority of law-abiding citizens.

Correction
A story in last week's issue quoted Charles Brown, director of the Public Library of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, saying the library system does not have any climate-controlled environment to protect special materials. Library spokeswoman Sarah Poole says a librarian has since pointed out the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room has a small climate-controlled vault that is almost full.
