To The Editors:
This letter is in regard to the recent commentary by Lucy Perkins ("Christ! What's Wrong With You People?" November 14). Ms. Perkins, it's obvious that you're one of those so-called liberals that find it amusing to blatantly state your ignorance. In your recent little writing, you tried to lump Christians and Osama in the same niche. I'm sorry you have had some run-ins with some hypocrites, like half the people in the world are, but face it, that's life. Christians aren't perfect, and I have never heard any of them claim to be. Not only that, but nowhere in the Bible does it say if you don't go to church, you're going to hell. Next time, do a little research before you try to come off as being even a tad bit smart. Ms. Perkins, in your feeble attempt to make a joke out of the Christian faith, you made a joke out of your column.

Lucy's Immaturity Level
To The Editors:
You should advise young Lucy Perkins to try and reach an adequate level of maturity for her next column. Her latest angst-filled gem easily shows one thing she has yet to learn in life: respect.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue for or against her stance on the issue of religion, as I myself am quite opinionated and unsatisfied when it comes to tackling the subject. My beef with Lucy Perkins has to do with how rude and immature she displayed herself to be in her debate. Her constant insults and naivete towards "religious nuts" takes away the power her debate could have had, leaving her article weak and somewhat predictable. It's fine for one to fume over an annoying e-mail they get from a family member. Who hasn't let out a big sigh due to certain behaviors of our loved ones on a given occasion? But calling them crazy, stupid, religious (a term she combined with "stupid" to add double insult) and hypocritical does nothing more than attack their character instead of their opinion. She goes on to wreak even more of her upstart havoc on people she doesn't even know. From people who believe in the Second Coming, to people who attend church each Sunday, Lucy Perkins makes them, and organized religion, seem like one dreadful mess.
Maybe if she opened her mind just a bit and allowed herself to see the other side of a coin once in a while, she'd see that not all churchgoers are "gossiping, hypocritical, backstabbing, so-and-so's." Hopefully, she'd find goodhearted people who believe strongly in their faith and in mankind. Hopefully, her only reason to go to a church (to be a good role model for some of the sorry S.O.B.'s who go there) would change. And lastly, maybe just maybe Lucy Perkins would learn that when you debate, it's wise not to put out an appearance that your opinion is the correct one and the topic you criticize is "ass-backwards." I doubt she will, however. She's still probably fuming over the "moronic fish decal" e-mail she was sent.
Grow up, Lucy Perkins. Learn how to debate a tad bit better, and get right with yourself.

Echoing Lucy
To The Editors:
Upon my father's insistence, I just read Lucy Perkins' article. Harsh! Makes sense, though, and echoes the feelings of myself and many of my friends. Merely wanted to compliment your excellent, insightful writing; I'll be reading more of your stuff, I think, so keep it up.

Say A Little Prayer
To The Editors:
Lucy Perkins says she doesn't like to be prayed for. Well, at the risk of raising her ire, I will go ahead and tell her that a simple prayer has been said on h er behalf, in hopes that the intense anger, bitterness, cynicism, negativity and turmoil pervading her mindset might be successfully eradicated, as it is evident to me, based upon the contents of her article, that she has created her own little "hell" for herself in which she has been unable to wrest herself free solely on her own.

Crossing The Line
To The Editors:
First, let me say even though a majority of the Christian friends that I have do not read Creative Loafing, I have in the past found some articles with redeeming social merit (i.e. by at least my standards, they were informative, not too obscene or offensive, and hit their mark). In this great land of the free, no one forces us to pick up and read CL. We do so of our own free will and if it offends us, then we just shouldn't read it. But I am now left with a terrible quandary. I find myself prescribing to the thoughts and beliefs of so many who do not read your newspaper.
I was OK until Lucy Perkins' article. I was even OK reading that sometimes strong-willed, faithful Christians can be annoying and overbearing. But Perkins crossed the line when she compared God-fearing American Christians to the hordes who follow and worship Osama Bin Laden. I am distraught she can't discern murdering religious zealots from family and friends who have in their best interest how she will, in their view, spend eternity.
Lucy, I don't know of many Christian hit men, but you've obviously been to a different type of church than I have. Your article smells terribly of someone who either had way too much parochial education as a child or who just hasn't come to grips with the meaning for all our varied existences in this world, and/or how a loving and caring God can let things like 9-11 happen.
I'm no biblical scholar, I just like to think that for all the evil in the world, the best way to overcome it is through love, compassion, and understanding. Lucy, I think you may have some issues here. So you will get a prayer from me. I hope you are kicking back on your front porch with Jesus, although, after reading your article, I might want to see some verifiable proof of that.
Change the article's title from "Christ! What's Wrong With You People?" to "Christ Is What's Right With You People!"
Maybe be a little more understanding in these desperate times. It would seem a lot of people tolerate you; return the favor.
