Dan The Man

Charlotte loves Savage Love.

That's the only conclusion we could draw from the responses we received in reply to the question posed in last week's "Sex In the Summer" cover package. Running a few sample letters from Savage Love, the nationally syndicated sex column by Dan Savage, we then asked readers to e-mail us (or respond via our Web site) on whether or not we should run Savage Love as a regular feature in Creative Loafing or whether we should drop him like a hot potato.

It was a landslide ... in favor of picking up the column. So prepare to start seeing Savage Love in the Charlotte CL on a biweekly basis, beginning at some point in early August. In the meantime, here are some of the responses that accompanied the votes.

"Yes, please run Savage Love in future CLs. He is providing great advice, with a very wry sense of humor, which fits the pages of CL perfectly!"

"Please, please, please run Savage Love. Dying cities like Cincinnati don't run Savage Love for fear of its 'adult' nature, but then, they can't attract and keep young professionals and a 'creative class.' Plus, Dan Savage is not just a sex columnist, but also a political columnist/activist."

"Absolutely, you should regularly run Savage Love. I had almost stopped checking out Creative Loafing until today, when I was leaving an establishment at lunch, saw the great cover and started browsing. Hey, I like Creative Loafing again -- going to take it home and share it with the wife!!! Thanks, guys!"

"Yes, please run Savage Love as a regular feature in Creative Loafing. As a matter of fact, could you run more articles on lovin' in general? I'm more interested in technique and such rather than the drama."

"If this is an example of the New Progressive South, what a sad addition with Savage's [column]. It's garbage, and I'm from the North. No, no!"

"Please run Savage Love!!! I've loved his column for years and would be so excited to see it in the Queen City. Thanks!"

"His articles are very enjoyable, but his advice/outlook seems pretty bad to me in some of the examples you have here. If you want a sassy sex columnist, whatever happened to Amy Alkon?" [Editor's Note: No guarantees, but we are currently exploring the possibility of bringing back Amy's Sex Goddess column to alternate with Dan's column.]

"Yes! Dan Savage would be an amazing addition to Creative Loafing."

"I vote 'YES' for Mr. Savage!!! Frank, no BS and to the point. Folks need to hear the truth for a change without the watered down version."

"I hope we are able to read Dan Savage in CL every week. When I lived in Boston, I looked forward to reading his section in the Phoenix."

"Keep the column. He's honest, brutally honest, but that's what some people need. Funny guy, too."

"Dan Savage is my hero."
