Lion's Share

Sunday, August 19

Come away with us into the mighty jungle is what the national touring cast of Disney's The Lion King asks as they whisk you away into a lighter-handed version of Shakespeare's Hamlet for a younger generation. Actually, that's what the movie did; the musical takes that world and kicks it up several notches by adding more music and Julie Taymor's enchanting designs that pull you into an African dreamland where lions rule and young Simba grows from cub to lion to finally take his place as king. An event not to be missed and if you've seen it once, I'm sure to see you there again. 1 p.m. $22.50-$75. Belk Theater, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000.
