Local guitarist Rich Parris dies

Guitarist Rich Parris of the bands Animal Bag and M4 Messenger died on March 9, 2010. No word on the cause of death.

Animal Bag -- Luke Edwards (vocals and guitar), Parris (guitar), Otis Hughes (bass guitar) and Boo Duckworth (drums and percussion) -- started in Charlotte in the late 1980s and early 1990s before moving to Los Angeles and signing with Mercury Records. After the band broke up in the late '90s, Edwards went on to form the band Tater. Duckworth died in 2002 from natural causes.

Parris and Hughes formed M4 Messenger in 2006, along with Tim McDonnell and Benji Rogers, a band which often played around the city opening for a variety of acts such as Don Dokken and some rock tribute bands, such as Zoso. The band had recently finished recording its debut CD.
