LOCAL ISSUE WE'RE SICK OF

Where To Put Schools

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board's main obsession this year seems to have been where to locate new schools. The board is so afraid to offend anyone by expanding in the wrong place that it has virtually become paralyzed as suburban schools overflow. In the process, it has wasted endless amounts of time obsessing over school construction issues that affect only a handful of schools. Get over it and just build the damn things already. -- Tara Servatius

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
