I believe you nailed it. What a wonderfully insightful article. My mother was a RX addict for over thirty years and, the biggest thing I learned from the numerous episodes of rehab/binge/rehab/binge is no one can MAKE another person do anything. I couldn't MAKE my mother stay sober and Bobby B. could not MAKE Whitney do drugs or anything she didn't decide to do, on her own. Addiction has many levels of dysfunction and one is underlying mental illness...most people who suffer from addiction have some sort of mental illness that goes undiagnosed, undetected and untreated...THAT is the truly sad part of the equation. These people deserve support, love (sometimes TOUGH love) and help. God bless you!
