Maniac

When: Thu., July 11 2013
Price: $5-$10
In The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Elijah Wood fought Evil-with-a-capital-E. In this latest offering from Back Alley Film Series, he is Evil-with-a-capital-E. The actor who played the hobbit Frodo in Peter Jackson’s Tolkien adaptations now essays a role that’s much more similar to the psycho he played in the neo-noir outing Sin City. In Maniac, he’s cast as Frank, a mannequin-store owner who also happens to be a serial killer with a penchant for collecting scalps. This slasher flick, which enjoyed an early preview screening at this past spring’s Mad Monster Party, is a remake of the same-named 1980 movie that was condemned in the media for its graphic violence. Maniac will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Crownpoint. For more information, visit www.backalleyfilmseries.com.
