March Fourth Marching Band
Don’t let the “marching band” fool you. This Portland, Ore.-based band is closer to the jump and jive of New Orleans than the sad, off-key, past-its-prime pop being played during halftime of the average high school football game. The band touches on the soul of Bourbon Street, European gypsy folk and African rhythms in combination with funk, jazz and rock on its way to an indescribable performance that is as much something to see as it is to hear. The circus meets Gogol Bordello? Sgt. Pepper meets the Preservation Hall Jazz Band? Cirque du Soleil meets Antibalas? Perhaps any and all combinations of the above. Stilts, horns, costumes, drums ...
