Re: “Music scene original, Mark Stowe, dies at age 48

having just found out about Mark's passing. It is hard to have words. I remember meeting Mark the first time at the Milestone, can't remember the show, but, it was 85-86, and, he was a ball of fire. Close to the same time, we were both at a Lime Spiders show, and he, with me in tow, ` made his way to the tour bus, where the band wanted us to try vegamite. Mark was the mega-fan, he always had to have everything first, and everything by that band. He introduced me to bands like Jesus and Mary Chain, Gene Loves Jezabel and Flesh for Lulu.
In 1987, Mark was one of the first DJs along with myself and Calvin Boyd at the now legendary Pterodactyl Club. On any given night DJing, he would put one of his favorite records on, and run downstairs to spin wildly on the dance floor with reckless abandon. His passion for music was deeper then even the love you might see between the most passionate lovers. it was infectious.
Although we have been out of touch for well over ten years, I am sure his passion had not diminished. I promise you he has a record collection to rival any music fan anywhere. He reminds me of John Cusack's character Rob Gorden in High Fidelity, only, the alternative version. He saw life through the music that he loved, and I for one, feel privileged to have been touched by his passion.
Charlotte has lost a music icon.

Re: “Live review: Identity Festival

I guess I just would never take an assignment for something I knew nothing about. Should I happen to, I would at least do a little research. Me walking into a hip hop show of groups I had never heard of would prolly plain sound like an angry mob on stage. Or even a 311 show, simply due to the fact that I know nothing about the band, I would be doing them, AND their fans a disservice by trying to write a review of what they did on stage. Why do I not write reviews of shows? I used to years ago for a little indie mag in town. I simply stay too busy to offer my time and services for little more than free tickets to a show.
If CL would like a review from me, as a "different perspective" I would be happy to do so. Even knowing it wouldn't please EVERYONE.
