MIPSO
It’s common knowledge that a lot of good bands come out of Chapel Hill (this statement is on par with “water is wet” and “Gwar is ridiculous”), yet not many of them are born of the UNC campus itself. In this regard, Mipso is a little unusual — the core trio doesn’t graduate until a few weeks after this Evening Muse date, though they’ve already gotten a respectable start gigging regionally. Musically, Mipso fits within the continuing groundswell of string band pop that’s been so dominant of late, yet is not so saccharine as the dominant mode: their wry love songs and small town retrospectives are built on exuberance, rather, and it’s a welcome variation.
