Mr. Marmalade

Thursday, Feb. 8

Talk of pushing the envelope! BareBone Theatre Group is serving up Noah Haidle's Mr. Marmalade, a satire that enters the fantasy world of a 4-year-old girl in such an adult fashion that even some New York critics were uncomfortable. James Yost directs an ace cast at Duke Power Studio Theatre that includes Meghan Lowther, Robert Lee Simmons, Beth Yost, and Jonavan Adams. The mayhem at Spirit Square continues through Feb. 24, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Feb. 18. CL's Perry Tannenbaum hosts a LivePulse talkback with cast and director after this Saturday's performance. Thursday and Sunday tickets are $15 ($12 for students/seniors), Friday and Saturdays are $20 ($15 for students/seniors). Call 704-372-1000.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
