MUSIC: American Aquarium at Snug Harbor

Wednesday, Jan. 7

Don't expect anything fishy from the Raleigh-based band American Aquarium when it visits Charlotte for a performance at Snug Harbor. The group will however, splash you with its roots-rock and country-style song fusions. Check 'em out on MySpace (www.myspace.com/americanaquarium) and if you like what you hear, get your ass out to the live show. Red Collar to open. 10 p.m. Snug Harbor, 1228 Gordon St. 704-333-9799. www.snugrock.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
