MUSIC: Ben Folds

Sunday, March 1

Hailing from the triad area of North Carolina, Ben Folds has made a name for himself both with the "five" and without. Following the band's (Ben Folds Five) demise in 2000, Folds treaded a slightly different course via his solo career move. He went on to release three discs, including 2001's Rockin' The Suburbs, '05's Songs For Silverman and most recently, '08s Way To Normal. The latter earned him his highest ranking recognition yet, as it debuted No. 11 on the Billboard 200 charts during the first week of its release. The single "You Don't Know Me" is a whimsical duet between both Folds and musician Regina Spektor, and while it stands out, it's in no way the only zestful, upbeat gem on the album. Be sure to make your way to Ovens Auditorium to see Folds perform. Miniature Tigers opens. $27.50. 7:30 p.m. Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. 704-522-6500. www.ovensauditorium.com.
