MUSIC: Laura Izibor

Wednesday, Dec. 10

Fans of soul music should rejoice this week -- there's a lot of good music going on. You may have heard that superstar vocalists John Legend and Raphael Saadiq are playing Ovens Auditorium on Dec. 12, but a local visit by up-and-coming singer Laura Izibor probably isn't on your radar. Izibor, however, is an artist that should not be overlooked. Some folks have compared her to talents like Alicia Keys and Chrisette Michelle, but the Irish-born Izibor sports an organic, piano-driven sound that's all her own. Come check it out for yourself when she pays a visit to Apostrophe Lounge tonight. Free. 6 p.m. Apostrophe Lounge, 1440 S. Tryon. 704-371-7079.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
