The Penguin Drive-In has been serving up great food all day and all night in Charlotte for more than 50 years. This year, they celebrate their 7th Annual Pig Pickin' Day on Saturday, July 7. The family event takes on the life of a big block party as people from the surrounding neighborhood get together for beer, burgers and, of course, bands. The lineup features "Good All-American Rock N Roll" and includes local acts The Belmont Playboys, Motorbilly, Jem Crossland and the Hypertonics and Al Foul.
The event, a Penguin tradition, began in 2000 as a way for the restaurant to give back to its community and loyal customers and usually happened on the 4th of July. The Penguin used to have more parties a year, but decided one big Independence Day bash with food, fireworks and entertainment would be a great thing too. As for the name, "Pig Pickin'" comes from the two whole pigs the restaurant cooks up for the event. Barbecue anyone?
