MUSIC: The Avett Brothers and Dave Matthews Band

Friday, April 24

The Avett Brothers -- known for blending country, folk and rock 'n' roll melodies -- are no strangers to Charlotte, since band members stem from Concord, a city right around the corner. The group sold out headlining New Years Eve shows last year at Belk Theater, and now the band is moving onto even higher musical grounds. They'll be opening up for the Dave Matthews Band at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on April 24. $38-$68. 7 p.m. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, 707 Pavilion Blvd. 704-549-5555.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
