MUSIC: The Foreign Exchange at Double Door Inn

Sunday, April 19

Over the years, Charlotteans have earned a reputation for sleeping on concerts that hit the city -- especially shows headlined by artists who aren't played on commercial radio. That said, one show Q.C. music lovers definitely shouldn't miss is tonight's performance by The Foreign Exchange. The acclaimed group consists of Phonte (from the N.C.-based hip-hop group Little Brother), Dutch producer Nicolay and a host of guest vocalists such as Durham's own Yazarah (To read an interview with Yazarah, flip over to this week's cover story.) This crew of artists might not be household names yet, but their moody and melodic mix of hip-hop and soul is undeniable. And, damn, the show is free. 7 p.m. Double Door Inn, 1218 Charlottetown Ave. 704-376-1446. www.doubledoorinn.com.
