Musically Inclined

While the crowd at Ovens Auditorium wasn't as large as some might have hoped, the 2007 Charlotte Music Awards was held Sept. 6 without any major problems. Affiliated with the L.A. Music Awards, the goal of the showcase is to "enhance the profile of the music community in this area and support local music and local artists." Here are some of the winners:

• Best Male Vocalist: Mike Garrigan, Mark Kano

• Best Female Vocalist: Tracy Wyatt

• Best Club Owner: Neal MF Harper, The Milestone Club

• Best Booking Agent: Micah Davidson, Carolina Live Music Society

• Most Promising Artist: South 85

• Best Overall Artist: The Noises 10

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
