NIGHTLIFE: Decadence Project: "Valentines Burning"

Saturday, Feb. 13

Tonight, Amos' Southend transforms into a fetish-absorbed gothland during Single Cell Productions' Decadence Project: "Valentines Burning" party. The dance floor will transcend in movements, as folks strut their stuff, wave their glow sticks, and strap on their goggles for a mix of industrial, electronic, darkwave beats being spun "right round like a record baby" by DJ Spider and others. In addition, the event includes erotic performances, a "renovated" VIP fetish demonstration area, vendors and appearances by alternative and fetish models and photographers. Though the name is different, this sounds a lot like SCP's late Purgatory to me, and that's not a bad thing ... not at all. For more information, visit http://singlecell.us. 18 and up. $15-$20 for general admission; $25-$40 for VIP. 8 p.m. Amos' Southend, 1423 S. Tryon St. 704-377-6874. www.amossouthend.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
