NIGHTLIFE: Hazmat at The Players Club & Lounge

Friday, July 17

Whether you think of a mutated villan from a comic or video game, or the more obvious dangerous materials and protective safety suits, when you hear the word Hazmat, havoc might spring to mind. Single Cell Productions' (known widely for its former Purgatory fetish, S&M bondage parties) Hazmat isn't really dangerous. But the event tampers with a darker musical realm, paying particular attention to providing harsh industrial and ebm sounds, spun by a cadre of DJs. Also in the mix are Purgatory go-go dancers and drink specials. OK, maybe I'm wrong and this could get dangerous. 18 and up. 9 p.m. The Players Club & Lounge (formerly Players Sports Bar), 400 N. Polk St., Pineville.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
