Parties for the Land

Parties for the Land is the Catawba Lands Conservancy's signature fall gala. The fundraiser will feature live music by the Bad Daddies, plenty of food, drinks and silent and live auctions. In addition, this annual event provides exclusive opportunities to match interests with the outdoors. Attendees can also get first dibs at purchasing tickets to smaller, themed parties -- such as landscaping instruction, fly fishing lessons or yoga in the garden -- that take place throughout 2006. This year's gala will be held at a new location, the Design Center Atrium at Byron's South End. It happens on Sat., Nov. 5, at 7:30pm. Tickets are $55 for members ($50 level or higher) & $75 for non-members; pre-registration is encouraged. Details at 704-342-3330 or www.catawbalands.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
